Pairs: A Visual Exploration

Book design featuring simple photographs and illustrations intended to engage viewers and invite them to make associations with classic pairings, such as ketchup and mustard or good and evil. The layout includes 40 spreads with visuals that keep people guessing, an inside/outside slip cover, and an answer key for the clues that may leave someone stumped.

Every so often pairs of items come together in a combination so powerful, so delicious, or so repugnant that it stays with us, acknowledged by the public, withstanding the test of time. Classic pairings brand one another in a way that make them inseparable, so much so that one often cannot exist without the other. Over time these pairs become ingrained in our vocabulary, lending themselves to clichés and metaphors, as well as becoming a source for visual inspiration.
